A sense of responsibility to protect human health and conserve the environment has formed an integral part of our company's philosophy for generations.
As a family-owned company, it is in our DNA to think about the future.
Our strategy is sub-divided into climate, resource conservation and social sustainability.
We develop our products with the careful use of natural resources in mind. We therefore rely on high-quality recycled papers and renewable cellulose as a raw fibre, the efficient use of energy, and the economical consumption of water. Our speciality papers support our customers' desire for sustainable and environmentally friendly solutions and their efforts to protect and preserve the environment as much as possible through their own actions.
As a family-owned company, it is our goal to make the company sustainable and future-proof, and pass it on to the next generation in the best condition. Now in our eighth generation, we have succeeded in doing so.
With our comprehensive sustainability strategy, we will continue to live by our values in the future and reduce our carbon footprint to protect the environment.

Climate protection
Erfurt is guided by the 1.5 degree climate target of the Paris Agreement concluded at the 2015 United Nations Climate Conference. This target is designed to limit the global rise in temperature resulting from the greenhouse gas effect caused by humans to 1.5 degrees Celsius by 2100, calculated from the start of industrialisation. Our Scope 1 and 2 carbon footprint at our Wuppertal site is currently being calculated as the base figure. Direct or Scope 1 carbon emissions originate from sources directly at the site where a product is manufactured or a service is provided. Scope 2 emissions are indirect emissions associated with bought-in electricity, heat and/or steam used at the site.

Company and site
ERFURT is a traditional family-owned company, which has had a sense of responsibility for generations to protect human health and conserve the environment. The company is situated in a picturesque location in the middle of a nature reserve directly on the Wupper. Surrounded by forests and meadows, the site provides an ideal environment for developing innovative and sustainable products.
ERFURT’s production site in Wuppertal relies on innovative and environmentally-friendly technologies. Photovoltaic systems on the company's roofs save around 125 tonnes of CO2 a year. The company has set itself the goal of measurably saving more energy than in the previous year. Energy-saving projects are being continuously developed as part of our DIN EN ISO 50001 energy management certification process.

Climate-friendly products and resource conservation
Our company develops and produces specialty papers that are free of harmful ingredients. Our products contain no fibreglass, plasticisers, PVC or solvents.
Our speciality papers can also be produced from 100% recycled fibres and thus offer a resource-conserving alternative to fresh fibre products.
As part of our resource conservation efforts, we also develop our products with consideration of the sustainable handling of natural resources. We rely on high-grade recycled papers, renewable cellulose as a raw fibre, efficient consumption of energy, and economical consumption of water.
Our speciality papers meet our customers’ wish for sustainable and environmentally-friendly solutions.

Social sustainability
Our success is based on the skills and motivation of our qualified employees, whose expertise we fully appreciate. The sense of community among our employees is a central aspect of our corporate culture. We promote a friendly working environment through joint events and the establishment of ‘quiet’ areas within the company that foster discussions between employees in pleasant surroundings.
